When my mom was young, she claimed to have had a sixth sense and was able to do a bit of fortune telling. She told me a few stories of where she’d tell someone their future and they would return to her a few months later to confirm her visions. Over the years, she grew cautious and very superstitious. Growing up, I was taught to be aware of a lot of superstitious rules. Many of which I started following… And so begins a series that I will write about of some of the superstitions I completely believe in.
Rule No. 1: Three people in a photo is a big no-no
Googling this will result in many superstitions about how if 3 people take a photo together, the middle one with die first. Yikes! That’s a bit scary. The superstition that I was taught growing up was that the 3 people in the photo will fall apart/grow apart.
There were a few occurrences where this proved true for me:
In middle school, my two closest friends popped into a photo with me in a pose during a field trip to Lake Elizabeth. Shortly after, one of them moved off to another school district and the other gal and I just drifted apart.
In high school, another two of my friends decided to pop in a photo with me. They were dating but shortly after that photo was taken, they broke up and never spoke to each other again. I’m not really a side chooser so we ended up drifting away from one another.
More recently, during last year’s company Halloween party, two coworkers and I had this awesome idea of dressing up as S’mores (chocolate, marshmellow, and graham crackers). It was a cute costume idea but cursed us with photos taken of just us three even when we tried to avoid it. A few months later, our company had lay-offs which resulted the two friends to move towards different paths. We still see each other every now and then but it just isn’t the same anymore. :-(
Sooo… the moral is: try to avoid being in a photo of three people!
